AgustaWestland

AgustaWestland was an Italian aerospace company specializing in the design, production, and support of helicopters. The company was established in 2000 as a merger between Italy's Agusta and Britain's Westland Helicopters, forming a joint venture under the Finmeccanica group (later rebranded as Leonardo S.p.A.).

Headquartered in Terni, Italy, AgustaWestland operated manufacturing and research facilities across Europe and served both civil and military markets. It produced a range of rotorcraft, including the AW109, AW139, AW159 Wildcat, and AW189 models, which were utilized for purposes such as emergency medical services, search and rescue, offshore transport, and naval operations.

In 2016, AgustaWestland was fully integrated into Leonardo S.p.A., a multinational aerospace, defense, and security company, and ceased to operate as a separate brand. Its product lines and technology continue to be developed and marketed under the Leonardo name.

The company maintained a global presence with subsidiaries, service centers, and partnerships in regions including North America, Asia, and the Middle East. It was involved in several high-profile international contracts, though some were subject to investigation or controversy, such as the VVIP helicopter deal in India, which led to legal proceedings in multiple countries.

AgustaWestland contributed to advancements in tiltrotor technology through collaboration on the AW609, a civil tiltrotor aircraft designed for commercial operations.
