Aguri Igarashi

Aguri Igarashi (五十嵐 亮太, Igarashi Aguri, born October 17, 2002) is a Japanese professional baseball pitcher for the Tokyo Yakult Swallows of Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB). He is known for his strong fastball and is considered one of the promising young pitchers in the league.

Early Life and Amateur Career

Aguri Igarashi was born in Tochigi Prefecture, Japan. He attended Aizen Junior High School before enrolling at Chiben Wakayama High School, a prestigious baseball powerhouse known for producing professional players. During his high school career, he garnered attention for his pitching ability, particularly his fastball velocity, which consistently reached high speeds for a high schooler. He participated in the national high school baseball tournaments, further cementing his reputation as a top amateur prospect.

Professional Career

Igarashi was selected by the Tokyo Yakult Swallows in the fifth round of the 2020 NPB draft. He signed with the team and began his professional career with their minor league system.
