Afgansyah Reza (born 27 May 1989), professionally known as Afgan, is an Indonesian singer and actor. He is noted for his contributions to pop, R‑&‑B, soul, and jazz music, and has achieved significant commercial success and critical acclaim in Indonesia and Southeast Asia.
Early life and education
Afgan was born in Jakarta, Indonesia, to a Muslim family of Minangkabau descent. He is the second of four children of Loyd Yahya and Lola Purnama. He attended Monash University Malaysia, where he earned a Bachelor of Economics.
Musical career
Afgan’s music career began in 2007 after recording a private album at Wanna B Instant Recording Studio, where producers offered him a recording contract. His debut album, Confession No. 1 (2008), blended jazz, pop, and R‑&‑B influences and featured hits such as “Terima Kasih Cinta,” “Klise,” “Sadis,” and “Tanpa Batas Waktu.” Subsequent releases include:

- Dekade (2018) – commemorating ten years in the industry, celebrated with concerts in Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta.

In 2020, he collaborated with fellow Indonesian singer Raisa on the single “Tunjukkan.” By 2022, Afgan shifted toward a more R‑&‑B‑focused sound, releasing tracks such as “So Wrong But So Right” and “Ku Dengannya Kau Dengan Dia.” He performed at the Java Jazz Festival 2024 alongside Bebi Romeo.
Acting career
Afgan entered acting in 2009 with a role in the film Bukan Cinta Biasa, also providing its title track. He subsequently appeared in Cinta 2 Hati (2010) and starred as Alfa in Cinta 2 Hati. His television appearances include guest spots on OB (Office Boy) (2008), the Ramadan series Doa Berbuka Puasa (2008–2012), and judging roles on Rising Star Indonesia (2014) and X Factor Indonesia (2015).
