John Aden Gillett (born 8 November 1958) is a British actor best known for playing the role of Jack Maddox in the BBC series The House of Eliott.
Biography and career
Gillett was born in Aden, Yemen (from which he derived his name), and attended Elizabeth College, Guernsey. He trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, where he received several awards including the Tree Prize, the Sir Emile Littler Prize, the Vanbrugh Prize, and the Radio Prize. He later received the Theatre World Award for Best Newcomer on Broadway for his performance in An Inspector Calls at the Royale Theatre, Broadway.
Gillett has performed extensively on stage, including playing Mr. Banks in a production of Mary Poppins, Benedick in Much Ado About Nothing, and Scrooge in the Royal Shakespeare Company's production of A Christmas Carol (2018–2019). He has been active with the Peter Hall Company at the Theatre Royal in Bath in numerous Shakespearean productions, including Antony and Cleopatra, As You Like It, and The Tempest at The Old Vic. He has also appeared in Noël Coward's Blithe Spirit and Private Lives, and George Bernard Shaw's Man and Superman and The Doctor's Dilemma.
On television, he appeared as Robin Hood in Ivanhoe (1997), as Peter Townsend in The Queen's Sister, and as Richard Crossman in The Crown (Season 3). His film credits include Shadow of the Vampire (2000), The Winslow Boy, The Borrowers, and The Foreigner (2017). He narrated the 2004 Discovery Channel documentary Who Betrayed Anne Frank.
Personal life
Gillett was married to actress Sara Stewart. They have two children.
