The Adams/Wabash station is an elevated railway station on the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) "L" system. Located at the intersection of East Adams Street and South Wabash Avenue in the Loop community area of Chicago, Illinois, it serves as a significant transit hub within the city’s central business district.
The station currently facilitates transfers between five of the CTA's eight rapid transit lines: the Brown, Green, Orange, Pink, and Purple Lines. It features two side platforms situated on the eastern leg of the Union Loop elevated structure.
The station opened on November 8, 1896, as part of the Lake Street Elevated Railroad's extension into the downtown area. Historically, it was one of the original stations serving the Loop. Over time, the station has undergone various renovations to maintain its structural integrity and provide modern amenities while retaining elements of its original design.
Adams/Wabash station is noted for its proximity to several major cultural and civic landmarks. It serves as a primary transit point for the Art Institute of Chicago, Millennium Park, Grant Park, and the Symphony Center. Due to its location in the Loop’s historic retail district, it also provides access to numerous commercial establishments and educational institutions, including DePaul University's Loop campus and Roosevelt University.
