Definition Adams Island was a former island located off the coast of Massachusetts, in the vicinity of Nantucket.

Overview Originally part of Tuckernuck Island, the landmass functioned as a barrier beach during the late 19th century. Due to the impact of natural environmental forces, such as ocean currents and storms, the island underwent significant morphological changes and eventually disappeared.

Characteristics During the 1890s, the westernmost portion of Tuckernuck Island extended toward Muskeget Island, serving as a protective barrier for the Gravel Islands, western Dry Shoal, and Little Gull Island. In 1983, a group of Nantucket residents, self-designated as "Adamites," held a celebration to honor the former island.
