Adam Watene (19 October 1977 – 13 January 2008) was a professional rugby league footballer who played as a prop forward. Born in New Zealand to Tongan parents, he began his senior career with the Canterbury Rugby League club in the Canterbury Rugby League competition.
Watene later moved to the United Kingdom, where he signed with the Warrington Wolves in the Super League, making his debut in the 2005 season. Over two seasons with Warrington, he appeared in 46 matches and scored three tries. In 2007, he joined the Bradford Bulls, adding 16 appearances to his Super League record before returning to New Zealand.
In addition to club play, Watene represented Tonga at the international level, appearing in matches during the 2006 Pacific Cup.
On 13 January 2008, Adam Watene died of a heart attack while playing a touch‑football match in his hometown of Workington, New Zealand, at the age of 30. His death prompted tributes from former clubs and teammates, and his contributions to the sport have been remembered in subsequent commemorations, including a memorial match held by the Warrington Wolves.
