Adam Rayski (27 March 1913 – 28 April 2008) was a Polish‑born French communist journalist, writer, and resistance activist. He is noted for his involvement in the French Resistance during World War II and his subsequent career with the communist newspaper L Humanité.

Early life and education

Political activity and World War II

  • Joined the French Communist Party (PCF) and participated in underground activities as the Nazi occupation of France began.
  • Served in the Francs‑Tireurs et Partisans – Main d’Œuvre Immigrée (FTP‑MOI), an immigrant branch of the communist resistance network, where he helped organize sabotage and clandestine publishing.
  • Was arrested by German authorities in 1943, detained, and later released following the liberation of France.

Post‑war journalism and writing

Later life and death

  • Continued to write and lecture on communist theory and the history of the resistance throughout the Cold War era.
  • Died in Paris on 28 April 2008 at the age of 95.

Legacy
