Achim Beierlorzer (born 20 November 1967) is a German professional football manager and former player. He is primarily known for his coaching career, having managed several clubs in Germany's top two divisions, the Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga.
Early Life and Playing Career Beierlorzer was born in Erlangen, West Germany. As a player, he primarily featured as a midfielder for various amateur and lower-league clubs in Germany, including 1. FC Nürnberg II, SpVgg Jahn Forchheim, TSV Vestenbergsgreuth, and SC Feucht. His playing career did not reach the professional levels of the Bundesliga.
Managerial Career
Early Coaching Roles Beierlorzer transitioned into coaching after his playing career. He began working in youth development and various assistant roles. Notably, he spent a significant period at RB Leipzig, where he served in several capacities, including youth coach and assistant manager for the senior team under coaches like Ralf Rangnick and Ralph Hasenhüttl.
SSV Jahn Regensburg His first major role as a head coach in professional football came in 2017 when he took over SSV Jahn Regensburg. He successfully led the club to strong performances in the 2. Bundesliga, establishing them as a competitive side and earning praise for his tactical approach and ability to develop players.
1. FC Köln In the summer of 2019, Beierlorzer was appointed head coach of newly promoted Bundesliga club 1. FC Köln. His tenure, however, was brief, as he was sacked in November 2019 after a poor start to the season.
1. FSV Mainz 05 Shortly after his departure from Köln, Beierlorzer was appointed head coach of fellow Bundesliga club 1. FSV Mainz 05 in November 2019. He successfully guided Mainz to avoid relegation in the 2019–20 season. He continued as manager into the 2020–21 season but was dismissed in September 2020 after the team lost its first two league matches.
Later Roles Following his time at Mainz, Beierlorzer remained active in German football, taking on various scouting, sporting director, or advisory roles, often maintaining a close connection to clubs and their development strategies. He briefly returned to RB Leipzig in 2021 as an assistant manager under Jesse Marsch.
