Abumusa County (Persian: شهرستان ابوموسی, Shahrestān-e Abū Mūsá) is an administrative subdivision of Hormozgan Province in southern Iran. The county consists primarily of the island of Abu Musa (also spelled Abu Mousa), situated in the Persian Gulf, and a number of smaller surrounding islands. The county seat is the city of Abu Musa.
Geography
- The county is located off the coast of the Iranian mainland, approximately 70 km southwest of Bandar Abbas.

Political and Strategic Context
Abu Musa Island, and by extension Abumusa County, is part of a longstanding territorial dispute between Iran and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The UAE claims the island as part of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi (the “Greater and Lesser Tunbs and Abu Musa” claim), while Iran has exercised de facto control since 1971. The dispute remains a diplomatic issue but does not affect the county’s administrative status within Iran.
