Abe Poffenroth (born October 30, 1974) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman. Although drafted by the Buffalo Sabres of the National Hockey League (NHL), he spent his entire professional career in various minor leagues across North America.
Born in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Poffenroth began his major junior career in the Western Hockey League (WHL). He played for the Portland Winter Hawks (1990–1992), Seattle Thunderbirds (1992–1994), and Lethbridge Hurricanes (1994–1995). During his time in the WHL, he was drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in the seventh round, 169th overall, in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft.
Poffenroth turned professional in the 1995–96 season, playing for the Mobile Mysticks in the ECHL and the Houston Aeros in the International Hockey League (IHL). Over his professional career, which spanned from 1995 to 2004, he played for numerous teams in various leagues, including the ECHL (Mobile Mysticks, Baton Rouge Kingfish, Fort Wayne Komets, Idaho Steelheads), the West Coast Hockey League (WCHL) (San Diego Gulls), and the Central Hockey League (CHL) (San Angelo Outlaws, Laredo Bucks). He was known as a steady, reliable defenceman during his time in these leagues. Poffenroth retired from professional hockey after the 2003–2004 season.
