The Abdulinsky District (Russian: Абдулинский райо́н) is an administrative district (raion), one of the thirty-five in Orenburg Oblast, Russia. It is located in the northwest of the oblast. The area of the district is 1,691 square kilometers (653 sq mi). Its administrative center is the town of Abdulino. As of the 2010 Census, the total population of the district was 27,242, with the population of Abdulino accounting for 59.9% of that figure.
Geography The Abdulinsky District is situated in the northwestern part of Orenburg Oblast, bordering the Republic of Bashkortostan to the north and east, and Samara Oblast to the west. Its relief is characterized by rolling plains and river valleys, primarily drained by tributaries of the Ik River and the Kinel River (a tributary of the Samara River). The district features a continental climate with cold winters and warm summers. Natural vegetation includes steppe grasslands and mixed forests, particularly along river valleys.
History The Abdulinsky District was established in 1928 as part of the then Middle Volga Krai (now Samara Oblast), following administrative reforms in the Soviet Union that consolidated smaller administrative units. It later became part of Orenburg Oblast (then Chkalov Oblast) in 1934. The district's formation was linked to the development of agriculture and the establishment of collective farms in the region. Abdulino, the administrative center, developed significantly due to its strategic location on the Samara-Zlatoust Railway.
Administrative and Municipal Status Within the framework of administrative divisions, the Abdulinsky District is one of thirty-five districts in Orenburg Oblast. The town of Abdulino serves as its administrative center.
As a municipal division, the district is incorporated as Abdulinsky Urban Okrug. Before 2015, it was municipal district and comprised Abdulino Urban Settlement and various rural settlements. In 2015, all municipal formations within the district were merged into the Abdulinsky Urban Okrug.
Economy The economy of the Abdulinsky District is primarily agrarian. Agriculture focuses on grain production (wheat, barley, rye) and livestock farming. Industrial activity is relatively minor, mainly involving the processing of agricultural products and local services. The town of Abdulino also serves as a railway hub, which contributes to the local economy through transport and logistics.
