Abdel Sattar Sabry (Arabic: عبد السattar صبري; born 21 November 1974) is an Egyptian former professional footballer who played as an attacking midfielder. He is known for his technical skill, creativity, and contributions to both club and national teams during the 1990s and early 2000s.
Overview
Sabry began his senior career with Al Ahly SC, one of Egypt’s most successful clubs, where he played from 1992 to 1999. During his tenure, he helped the team win multiple Egyptian Premier League titles and Egypt Cups. In 1999, he transferred to PAOK FC in Greece, marking his first experience in European football. After a brief spell in Greece, Sabry returned to Egypt, joining Zamalek SC for the 2000‑2001 season, before moving abroad again to play for Al Wasl FC in the United Arab Emirates (2001‑2003). He concluded his playing career with a final stint at Al Ahly before retiring in 2005.
Internationally, Sabry earned 64 caps for the Egypt national football team between 1995 and 2001, scoring 19 goals. He participated in several major tournaments, including the African Cup of Nations (1998, 2000) and the 1999 FIFA Confederations Cup. Notably, he was part of the Egyptian squad that reached the final of the 1998 African Cup of Nations, finishing as runners‑up to South Africa.
