The A25 road is a designation assigned to several different transport routes across various countries. The most prominent examples are located in the United Kingdom, Portugal, and Sri Lanka.
United Kingdom
In the United Kingdom, the A25 is a primary A-road in South East England. It runs approximately 46 miles (74 km) in an east-west direction, connecting Guildford in Surrey to Wrotham Heath in Kent. The road passes through the North Downs and several significant towns, including Dorking, Reigate, Redhill, and Sevenoaks. Before the completion of the M25 motorway, the A25 was a major route for long-distance travel south of London; today, it primarily serves local traffic and acts as an alternative route during motorway congestion.
Portugal
In Portugal, the A25 (Autoestrada das Beiras Litorais e Alta) is a major motorway extending approximately 197 kilometers (122 miles). It connects the Atlantic coastal city of Aveiro to the Spanish border at Vilar Formoso. The A25 is a critical infrastructure component for international trade, forming part of the European route E80. It replaced the IP5, which was previously known as one of the most dangerous roads in the country due to its high accident rate before being upgraded to motorway standards.
Sri Lanka
The A25 highway in Sri Lanka is a national road in the eastern part of the country. It connects Siyambalanduwa in the Moneragala District to Ampara. This route is an important link for regional transport between the Uva and Eastern provinces.
Australia
In Tasmania, Australia, the A25 designation is used for a portion of the road network in the northern part of the state. It is primarily associated with the B81 and portions of the Bass Highway corridor, facilitating transit between Launceston and the northeastern coastal regions.
Kenya
Within the Kenyan road classification system, the A25 is a designated international trunk road. It forms part of the network connecting major administrative centers, specifically running through regions in the western part of the country, including the route between Mau Summit and Kisumu.
