Arthur Ralph Harwood (1900 – 1991), commonly known as A. R. Harwood, was a prominent Australian ornithologist and nature writer. He made significant contributions to the study of Australian birdlife, particularly focusing on waders and shorebirds.
Harwood was known for his meticulous field observations and his dedication to ornithological research and conservation. His work often involved extensive fieldwork, bird banding, and detailed record-keeping, which provided valuable insights into the migratory patterns and ecology of avian species in Australia.
He was an active member of the Royal Australasian Ornithologists Union (RAOU, now BirdLife Australia) and frequently contributed articles and research papers to its journal, The Emu. Harwood's writings and observations helped to advance the understanding of Australia's diverse bird populations, and he played a role in fostering public interest in natural history and bird conservation throughout his lifetime.
