Kwasi Anokye Badu Ampiah (born February 18, 1941 – died December 16, 2019), often referred to by his initials A. K. B. Ampiah, was a prominent Ghanaian jurist. He served as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Ghana from 1999 until his retirement in 2006.
Early Life and Education A. K. B. Ampiah was born on February 18, 1941. He received his secondary education at Adisadel College in Cape Coast. He later pursued legal studies at the University of Ghana and the Ghana School of Law, where he qualified as a barrister and was called to the Ghana Bar.
Career Justice Ampiah began his legal career in private practice. His distinguished service in the legal profession led to his appointment as a High Court Judge. He subsequently rose through the ranks of Ghana's judiciary, serving as a Justice of the Court of Appeal.
In 1999, President Jerry John Rawlings appointed him to the Supreme Court of Ghana, the highest court in the country's judicial system. During his tenure on the Supreme Court, Justice Ampiah contributed significantly to Ghanaian jurisprudence through his judgments and legal interpretations. He was known for his dedication to justice and his deep understanding of the law. He retired from the Supreme Court in 2006 upon reaching the mandatory retirement age of 65.
Death Justice A. K. B. Ampiah passed away on December 16, 2019, at the age of 78.
