A Man at His Place (Russian: Человек на своем месте, romanized: Chelovek na svoyom meste) is a 1972 Soviet drama film directed by Aleksey Sakharov and produced by Mosfilm. The screenplay was written by Valentin Chernykh.

Plot The story follows Semyon Bobrov (played by Vladimir Menshov), a young engineer who, after graduating from an institute and completing a three-year assignment at a factory in Leningrad, returns to his native village. He becomes the chief engineer of a collective farm and quickly demonstrates his competence. He then nominates himself for the position of chairman. Once appointed, he works to modernize the village's agricultural operations, including plans to build a large livestock complex. Facing limited district funds, he negotiates with the director of a nearby chemical plant to secure construction of a highway. He also recruits senior architecture students to design the complex and related infrastructure. His progressive approach meets resistance from some members of the farm board, but he ultimately secures a vote of confidence at a general assembly.
