The 910th Airlift Wing (910 AW) is an Air Force Reserve Command (AFRC) unit of the United States Air Force, primarily tasked with tactical airlift operations and a unique aerial spray mission. It is stationed at Youngstown Air Reserve Station in Vienna Township, Ohio.
Overview The 910th Airlift Wing provides combat-ready tactical airlift and support to global contingencies, operating the C-130H Hercules aircraft. Its dual mission capability includes both standard airlift and a specialized Department of Defense (DoD)-mandated aerial spray mission. This aerial spray capability is the only large-area aerial spray unit within the DoD, designed to control insect-borne diseases, undesirable vegetation, and to mitigate environmental hazards such as oil spills. The wing's personnel comprise a mix of traditional reservists, full-time Air Reserve Technicians, and active-duty personnel.
Characteristics The 910th Airlift Wing falls under the command of the 22nd Air Force, which is headquartered at Dobbins Air Reserve Base, Georgia, within the broader Air Force Reserve Command. While its current designation as the 910th Airlift Wing was established in 1992, the unit's lineage extends to earlier reserve organizations. For its unique aerial spray mission, the wing utilizes modular Aerial Spray Systems (MASS) that can be installed on its C-130H aircraft, converting them into platforms capable of precision dispersal of various agents. The wing participates in exercises and real-world operations globally, supporting both military and humanitarian efforts.
