8 First Dates (Russian: 8 pervykh svidaniy) is a 2012 romantic comedy film directed by David Dodson and Aleksandr Malyarevskiy. The film is a joint production between Russian and Ukrainian film companies, primarily produced by Kvartal 95 Studio. It stars Oksana Akinshina and Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The narrative utilizes a supernatural premise in which the two protagonists, Vera (Akinshina), a television presenter, and Nikita (Zelenskyy), a veterinarian, wake up in the same bed every morning despite having gone to sleep in their respective homes and being involved with other partners. This recurring phenomenon persists regardless of their attempts to prevent it, eventually leading the characters to develop a relationship.
The film was commercially successful in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) markets upon its release in March 2012. Its success led to the production of two sequels: 8 New Dates (2015) and 8 Best Dates (2016), forming a trilogy centered on similar comedic themes and recurring cast members. The film is noted in contemporary contexts for featuring Volodymyr Zelenskyy prior to his transition from the entertainment industry to the presidency of Ukraine.
