3rd Tactical Fighter Squadron (JASDF)

The 3rd Tactical Fighter Squadron (第3飛行隊, Dai-san Hikōtai) is a squadron of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) based at Misawa Air Base in Aomori Prefecture, Japan. It is part of the 3rd Air Wing.

The squadron was initially formed in 1956, operating the F-86F Sabre. In 1960, it transitioned to the F-104J Starfighter. The squadron relocated to Misawa Air Base in 1972. In 1986, the 3rd TFS was among the first JASDF squadrons to receive the F-1 fighter. It subsequently transitioned to the F-2 fighter in 2000, making it one of the earliest operational units to fly this type. The squadron is responsible for air defense and maritime strike roles.
