2022 Berlin ePrix

The 2022 Berlin ePrix was a pair of electric car races held at the Tempelhof Airport Street Circuit in Berlin, Germany, on May 14 and 15, 2022. It constituted the seventh and eighth rounds of the 2021-22 Formula E World Championship, the eighth season of the FIA Formula E Championship.

Background The Berlin ePrix has been a recurring fixture on the Formula E calendar since the series' inaugural season in 2014-15, making it one of the most consistently visited locations. The event took place at the Tempelhof Airport Street Circuit, a temporary track established on the apron of the historic former airport. For the 2022 edition, both races utilized the same circuit configuration, unlike some previous years where a reverse layout was employed for one of the races.

Race 1 (May 14) The first race, the seventh round of the championship, began with André Lotterer of the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team on pole position. However, it was Nyck de Vries of Mercedes-EQ Formula E Team who ultimately claimed victory, having started from fourth place on the grid. Edoardo Mortara of ROKiT Venturi Racing finished second, with Stoffel Vandoorne, de Vries's Mercedes-EQ teammate, securing third. The fastest lap of the race was set by Lucas di Grassi (ROKiT Venturi Racing). This win marked de Vries's first victory of the season.

Race 2 (May 15) The second race, the eighth round, saw Edoardo Mortara earn pole position for ROKiT Venturi Racing. Mortara converted his pole into a commanding victory, his second of the season, which significantly boosted his standing in the drivers' championship battle. Jean-Éric Vergne of DS Techeetah finished in second place, and Stoffel Vandoorne once again completed the podium in third for Mercedes-EQ. Jean-Éric Vergne also recorded the fastest lap of the race.

Significance The 2022 Berlin ePrix played a crucial role in shaping the championship standings. Stoffel Vandoorne maintained his lead in the Drivers' Championship with two strong podium finishes, while Edoardo Mortara's dominant victory propelled him closer to the top contenders. Mercedes-EQ continued to demonstrate strong performance in their final season in Formula E before their withdrawal at the end of the Gen2 era. The event was recognized for delivering competitive and engaging races on its distinctive urban airport circuit.
