2016 Thai League T1

The 2016 Thai League T1 was the 20th season of the Thai League, the highest professional football league in Thailand. The season commenced on February 27, 2016, and concluded on September 25, 2016. Eighteen clubs competed in the league.

Overview The season saw Muangthong United clinch their fourth league title, finishing at the top of the table. Their victory marked a significant achievement, securing qualification for the AFC Champions League group stage. Bangkok United finished as the runner-up, earning a spot in the AFC Champions League preliminary rounds.

Teams A total of 18 teams participated in the 2016 Thai League. These teams competed in a round-robin format, playing each other twice (once home and once away) for a total of 34 matches per team.

  • Relegation: At the end of the season, three teams were relegated to the Thai League 2 (formerly Thai Division 1 League). These teams were Army United, Chainat Hornbill, and Osotspa Samut Prakan (which was later rebranded as Super Power Samut Prakan but relegated under its 2016 identity).

Top Scorer The Golden Boot award for the top goalscorer of the 2016 Thai League T1 season was awarded to Cleiton Silva of Muangthong United, who scored 27 goals.
