Definition
The 2012–13 CEV Cup was a European volleyball competition for men's clubs organized by the Confédération Européenne de Volleyball (CEV). It represented the second-tier continental club competition in European men's volleyball, below the CEV Champions League.
Overview
The 2012–13 CEV Cup took place from October 2012 to March 2013 and featured men's volleyball clubs from across Europe. Teams qualified based on their national league standings from the previous season, typically from countries where their league ranking permitted multiple entries. The format consisted of multiple knockout rounds, including a final played over two legs (home and away matches).
The tournament concluded with the final match between Fenerbahçe Grundig (Turkey) and Russian club VC Belogorie (Belogorie Belgorod). VC Belogorie won the title by claiming both legs of the final, securing their first CEV Cup victory. Individual awards were given for best players in specific positions, as is standard in CEV competitions.
Etymology/Origin
The term "CEV Cup" originates from the name of the organizing body, the Confédération Européenne de Volleyball (CEV), which governs volleyball competitions in Europe. The competition was first held in the 1980–81 season under the name "CEV Cup" (previously known as the "CEV Cup Winners' Cup" until 2000), and it was reorganized into its current format to serve as the second-tier European club competition.
