2012 London Marathon

The 2012 London Marathon was the 32nd annual running of the London Marathon, a major long-distance running event held in London, United Kingdom. The race took place on Sunday, April 22, 2012, and was sponsored by Virgin. As one of the World Marathon Majors, the event featured elite professional races for men and women, wheelchair races, and a mass-participation marathon for amateur runners and charity fundraisers.

In the elite men's competition, Kenyan runner Wilson Kipsang emerged victorious with a time of 2:04:44. He finished ahead of the 2011 champion, Emmanuel Mutai. In the elite women's race, Kenya's Mary Keitany defended her title, winning for the second consecutive year with a time of 2:18:37. This performance set a new Kenyan national record at the time.

The wheelchair races saw British athlete David Weir win the men's category, marking his sixth victory at the London Marathon. The women's wheelchair race was won by Shelly Woods, also representing Great Britain.

The 2012 event saw approximately 37,500 starters, with 36,705 participants completing the course. The race followed the traditional route starting in Blackheath and Greenwich and finishing at The Mall near Buckingham Palace. It is distinct from the 2012 Olympic Marathons, which were held in London later that year in August as part of the Summer Games.
