The women's 800 metres event at the 2004 African Championships in Athletics was held in Brazzaville, Republic of the Congo, on July 16, 2004. The competition was part of the 14th edition of the African Championships in Athletics, a biennial continental athletics competition organized under the auspices of the Confederation of African Athletics.
The event was contested approximately one month before the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, and as a result, some top African athletes chose not to participate in the championships.

Saïda El Mehdi of Morocco won the gold medal with a time of 2:03.52. Kenya's Charity Wandia took the silver medal, and Caroline Chepkwony, also of Kenya, earned the bronze. The host nation's representative, Léontine Tsiba of the Republic of the Congo, finished in fourth place.
