  • Men's Singles: Pete Sampras (United States) defeated Andre Agassi (United States) in the final, 6–3, 6–4, 5–7, 6–4. This victory marked Sampras's record 14th Grand Slam singles title and was his last professional match before his retirement.

Notable Aspects The 2002 US Open is particularly remembered for Pete Sampras's memorable final Grand Slam victory, where he defeated his long-time rival Andre Agassi in an all-American final. This marked Sampras's fifth US Open title, tying Jimmy Connors and Roger Federer for the Open Era record. Serena Williams's triumph over her sister Venus in the women's final solidified her dominance in women's tennis, extending her Grand Slam winning streak.
