1995–96 A Group

The 1995–96 A Group was the 72nd season of the top-tier professional football league in Bulgaria. Organized by the Bulgarian Football Union, the competition featured 16 teams competing in a double round-robin format, where each club played every other club twice—once at home and once away.

Slavia Sofia won the championship, securing their seventh league title and their first since 1943. This victory ended a period of dominance by the "eternal rivals" CSKA Sofia and Levski Sofia. By also winning the Bulgarian Cup during the same season, Slavia Sofia achieved a domestic double. Levski Sofia finished the season as runners-up, while Lokomotiv Sofia took third place.

The league top scorer for the 1995–96 season was Ivo Georgiev of Spartak Varna, who recorded 21 goals. At the end of the season, the bottom three teams—FC Shumen, Lovech, and Spartak Plovdiv—were relegated to the B Group.

The season was notable for several administrative and competitive shifts. Neftochimic Burgas emerged as a significant force, finishing fourth in the standings. Additionally, the season saw the participation of traditional clubs such as Botev Plovdiv and CSKA Sofia, the latter finishing in a disappointing fifth place.

The final standings for the top five positions were:

  1. Slavia Sofia (77 points)
  2. Levski Sofia (74 points)
  3. Lokomotiv Sofia (52 points)
  4. Neftochimic Burgas (51 points)
  5. CSKA Sofia (50 points)
