The 1974–75 season was the final campaign of the Scottish Football League (SFL) Division One in its traditional format before the league was reorganised for the 1975–76 season. The season comprised the usual domestic league competition, the Scottish Cup, the Scottish League Cup and participation of Scottish clubs in European tournaments.
Division One (top tier)
- Champions: Rangers
- Runners‑up: Celtic
- Third place: Aberdeen
- Relegated: Clydebank and Morton (finished 17th and 18th respectively)
Division Two (second tier)
- Champions: Clyde
- Runners‑up: Alloa Athletic (both promoted to the re‑structured top division for the following season)
Scottish Cup
- Winners: Celtic, who defeated Dundee United 3–1 in the final at Hampden Park on 10 May 1975.
Scottish League Cup
- Winners: Rangers, who beat Celtic 1–0 after extra time in the final at Hampden Park on 7 December 1974.
European competition
- European Cup: Rangers entered as Scottish champions and were eliminated in the first round by Bayern Munich.
- European Cup Winners’ Cup: Celtic qualified as Scottish Cup holders; they reached the quarter‑finals before losing to VfB Stuttgart.
- UEFA Cup: Aberdeen and Dundee United represented Scotland; both were knocked out in the early rounds.
Key contextual notes
- The 1974–75 season ended the era of an 18‑team Division One. From the 1975–76 season onward the SFL introduced a three‑division structure – the Premier Division (10 clubs), the First Division (14 clubs) and the Second Division (14 clubs).
- Rangers’ league title ended Celtic’s record of ten consecutive championships (1965–1974).
