- 21 December – Santa María School massacre:
In the port city of Iquique, workers employed in the nitrate mines of the Atacama Desert organized a large strike demanding better wages and working conditions. The strikers gathered at the Santa María school, which was used as a temporary camp. On 21 December, Chilean Army troops under the command of General Luis del Solar opened fire on the crowd, killing an estimated 2,000 to 3,000 men, women, and children. The massacre became a defining moment in Chilean labor history and intensified national debate over labor rights and the exploitation of nitrate workers.
