17&Central

17&Central is a shopping centre located in Walthamstow, London, England. It is owned and managed by Capital & Regional, a UK-based property investment company. The centre has a floor area of approximately 260,000 square feet (24,000 m²) across two floors and houses more than 60 stores.

History

The centre originally opened as Selborne Walk in 1988. It was acquired by Capital & Regional in 1997 and was subsequently rebranded as part of The Mall Fund between 2011 and 2012, becoming known as The Mall Walthamstow. The interior was refurbished in 2015, and in 2018 plans were approved to extend the centre by approximately 86,000 square feet (8,000 m²) as part of broader regeneration efforts in the surrounding area.

On 22 July 2019, a large fire broke out at the centre, which was declared a "major incident" by police. Firefighters worked for up to seven hours to bring the blaze under control. The fire caused extensive damage, destroying more than half of the building's roof. The centre remained closed for several weeks and reopened on 4 September 2019.

In October 2021, the centre was rebranded as "17&Central," a name referencing the E17 postcode area of Walthamstow, with new exterior signage installed.

Stores and Facilities

Retail tenants at 17&Central have included Clarks, Asda, Boots, and TK Maxx, along with restaurants on the first floor such as Subway. The centre also hosts a food hall featuring multiple street food vendors and event spaces. The site is currently undergoing redevelopment as part of a mixed residential and commercial scheme.
