Plot summary: In 2010, Senator Gabriel Alcaraz prepares a privilege speech revealing details of a corruption scandal implicating President Genoviva Obrero. On the day he is to deliver the speech, a close ally, NBI director San Juan, is assassinated while trying to warn him of a plan to arrest him. Alcaraz escapes the Senate complex and flees the country, eventually hiding in the Netherlands. The story unfolds through flashbacks revealing that Alcaraz, Cristobal, and San Juan were former police partners who had rescued a woman named Isabelle Manahan from a kidnapping in 1986. Approximately 10,000 hours (one year, one month, and one week) after leaving the Philippines, Alcaraz returns and releases an audiotape naming corrupt officials, though most are subsequently killed under suspicious circumstances.
