Škoda Elroq

The Škoda Elroq is an upcoming battery electric compact crossover SUV developed by the Czech automobile manufacturer Škoda Auto. It is designed to occupy the C-segment SUV market and is positioned as the electric successor to the internal combustion engine-powered Škoda Karoq.

Development and Platform The Elroq is built on the Volkswagen Group’s MEB (Modularer E-Antriebs-Baukasten) platform, a modular car platform specifically engineered for electric vehicles. This platform is shared with other models within the group, including the Škoda Enyaq and the Volkswagen ID. series. The vehicle represents a key component of Škoda's corporate strategy to expand its electric vehicle portfolio.

Design The Elroq is the first production vehicle to fully adopt Škoda’s "Modern Solid" design language. This aesthetic shift features the "Tech-Deck Face," which replaces the traditional radiator grille with a flat, dark panel that integrates sensors and cameras. The design emphasizes aerodynamic efficiency and a minimalist interior, utilizing sustainable and recycled materials in the cabin construction.

Technical Specifications According to manufacturer announcements, the Elroq will be available in several powertrain configurations, including the Elroq 50, 60, 85, and the all-wheel-drive 85x. These variants are expected to offer different battery capacities and power outputs.

  • The entry-level Elroq 50 is reported to feature a 55 kWh battery and a rear-mounted motor.
  • The high-performance 85 and 85x variants are designed to utilize an 82 kWh battery.

While Škoda has provided preliminary range estimates exceeding 560 kilometers (WLTP) for certain configurations, final production specifications for all markets and trims have not been finalized. Accurate information is not confirmed regarding exact performance metrics or regional availability for all variants.

Market Positioning The Elroq is positioned below the larger Škoda Enyaq in terms of dimensions and price. It is intended to compete in the highly competitive compact SUV segment against both electric and internal combustion rivals. As of mid-2024, the vehicle has been officially teased in camouflaged form, with a full world premiere scheduled for the autumn of 2024. Market launch and initial deliveries are expected to follow in late 2024 or early 2025.
