Óli Mittún

Óli Mittún (born 10 June 2005 in Tórshavn, Faroe Islands) is a Faroese professional handball player who plays as a centre back for the Danish club GOG and the Faroe Islands national handball team.

Early life and club career

Mittún began his senior career with H71 in the Faroe Islands during the 2021–2022 season. In 2022, he moved to Swedish club IK Sävehof, where he played until 2025 and won the Swedish Handball League (Handbollsligan) in 2024. In August 2025, he transferred to Danish club GOG, signing a contract until 2029.

International career

Mittún made his senior debut for the Faroe Islands national team and participated in his first major championship at the 2024 European Men's Handball Championship. At the 2026 European Championship, he scored 23 goals and recorded 24 assists across the group stage matches against Switzerland, Montenegro, and Slovenia.

• Top scorer of the 2022 European Under-18 Championship (80 goals)
• Best centre back of the 2023 IHF World Men's Under-19 Championship (Croatia)
• Top scorer of the 2023 IHF World Under-19 Championship
• Top scorer of the 2024 European Men's Under-20 Championship (76 goals)
• MVP and top scorer of the 2025 IHF World Men's Under-21 Championship (Poland), where he led the Faroe Islands to a bronze medal

Individual recognition

In January 2026, Mittún was nominated for the IHF World Young Male Player of the Year award, alongside Francisco Costa (Portugal) and Nikola Roganović (Sweden).
