Ólafur Stefánsson (born 27 May 1973) is an Icelandic former professional handball player who played as a right back and is recognized as one of Iceland's most successful athletes in the sport.

Overview
Stefánsson began his senior handball career with FH (Fimleikafélag Hafnarfjarðar) in Iceland before moving to several European clubs, most notably KIF Kolding in Denmark, BM Ciudad Real and BM Valladolid in Spain, and SG Flensburg-Handewitt in Germany. Over a playing career that spanned more than two decades, he earned 357 caps for the Icelandic national team, scoring 1,623 goals. He represented Iceland in five Olympic Games (1996, 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012) and three World Championships. His most prominent international achievement was winning the silver medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, where Iceland reached the final for the first time in its handball history.

After retiring as a player, Stefánsson transitioned to coaching, serving as an assistant coach for the Icelandic national team and later taking head‑coach positions at club level.
