Á baðkari til Betlehem

Á baðkari til Betlehem (English: On a Bathtub to Bethlehem) is an Icelandic television series produced by the Icelandic National Broadcasting Service (RÚV). It was originally broadcast in 1990 as an Advent calendar (Icelandic: jóladagatal), a format where one episode is aired each day from December 1st until Christmas Eve.

The series was written by Sigurður G. Valgeirsson and Sveinbjörn I. Baldvinsson. The plot follows two children, Hafsteinn and Stína, who embark on a journey to the city of Bethlehem. Their primary mode of transportation throughout the series is a magical bathtub. During their journey, they encounter various characters and navigate several subplots tied to the Christmas season.

The music for the series was composed by the comedic duo Halli og Laddi (Haraldur and Þórhallur Sigurðsson). The songs featured in the program gained significant popularity in Iceland and have since become associated with the country’s modern Christmas traditions.

Á baðkari til Betlehem is noted for its role in the history of Icelandic children's programming. Due to its reception, RÚV has rebroadcast the series on multiple occasions, including in 1995 and 2004. It remains one of the more recognized examples of the televised Advent calendar genre in Iceland.
