$Trump

$Trump (stylized in all caps) is a meme coin cryptocurrency associated with United States president Donald Trump, hosted on the Solana blockchain. It was launched via an initial coin offering (ICO) on January 17, 2025, three days before Trump's inauguration as the 47th president of the United States.

Overview

One billion $TRUMP coins were created, with 800 million remaining owned by two Trump-affiliated companies—CIC Digital LLC and Fight Fight Fight LLC—after 200 million were publicly released. The coin's code is TRUMP, with a precision of 6 decimal places. Its logo features a digitally stylized image of Trump raising his fist after surviving the attempted assassination in July 2024.

History

The coin was announced by Trump on his X and Truth Social accounts several hours after its launch, following initial concerns that the cryptocurrency might be a scam or unaffiliated with the president-elect. The meme coin's website described it as the "only official Trump meme" and included disclaimers stating it was not intended as an investment opportunity, security, or political venture, and that it had "nothing to do with" any political campaign, office, or government agency. The terms prohibited coin buyers from joining class-action lawsuits against the project.

Value and Market Performance

Within two days of launch, $Trump became the 19th most valuable form of cryptocurrency, with a total trading value of nearly $13 billion and approximately $29 billion worth of trades based on a $64 value per token by January 19, 2025. The price initially soared over 300% overnight. By early July 2026, the coin was trading at less than $2, down 97% from its peak price of $75.35. A July 2026 analysis by The New York Times found that 988,905 wallets lost a total of $3.81 billion, with two out of three buyers having lost money, while Trump profited $636 million.

Token Distribution and Profits

A March 2025 Financial Times analysis found that the crypto project netted at least $350 million—$314 million from token sales and $36 million from fees. A February 2025 forensic analysis commissioned by The New York Times concluded that 813,294 wallets lost $2 billion trading the coin while Trump's company and partners profited approximately $100 million from trading fees. Fortune reported that investors lost $20 for every dollar in trading fees the creators earned.

Private Dinner (2025)

In April 2025, the top 220 holders of the coin were offered dinner with the president, and the top 25 holders received a VIP White House tour. The coin jumped more than 50% following the announcement. The dinner was held at Trump National Golf Club Washington, D.C. in Sterling, Virginia. According to NBC News, winners collectively spent $394 million. The event drew ethics concerns, with Senator Elizabeth Warren describing it as an "orgy of corruption" and Senator Jeff Merkley calling it "the Mount Everest of American corruption."

Private Event (2026)

In April 2026, top buyers of the $Trump coin attended a Mar-a-Lago event where they had potential facetime with Trump. Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) condemned the event.

Reception

The venture faced widespread condemnation from ethics experts over conflicts of interest related to Trump's presidential duties. Critics described it as potentially violating the Constitution's foreign emoluments clause, allowing foreign governments and special interests to seek influence. Some crypto executives said Trump undermined the credibility of the cryptocurrency industry. Some analysts described it as resembling a "rug pull" scheme. Representative Sam Liccardo introduced the Modern Emoluments and Malfeasance Enforcement Act (MEME Act) to prohibit issuance or endorsement of financial assets by senior government officials. In November 2025, a House Judiciary Committee report found that Trump's cryptocurrency policies benefited himself and his family, adding billions to his net worth through schemes entangled with foreign governments, corporate allies, and criminal actors.

$Melania

On January 19, 2025, Melania Trump launched her own meme coin, $Melania. From Inauguration Day 2025 to the end of November 2025, the $Melania token fell 99% in price, while $Trump fell 86%.
